Galatians: What has become of the goodwill you felt? For I testify that, had it been possible, you would have torn out your eyes and given them to me.
Isn't that what so often happens? We experience something so incredible, and we are so changed by what we think will be a permanent change, where we could have "torn out our eyes and given them to me?" And yet, the feeling fades.
The question is how can we stop the change from fading? Maybe it's a change in perspective, maybe it's a physical change, or maybe it's an addiction we've finally kicked.
You talk to any recovering addict and they will tell you the length of time since their sobriety, to the minute. Each minute, hour, day, week, month, and year is a milestone. It's putting one foot in front of the other.
St. Paul was the author of Galatians and in his letters to them, tried to make them understand that feeling of goodwill needs to carry on and not fade into dust.
Each year, month, week, day, hour, and minute, the Church offers us opportunities to reconnect with God through prayer, Mass, Sacraments, Rosary, and Adoration. By our participation, we keep God's goodwill strong, vibrant, and relevant.
Today is Good Friday, the end of Lent, the end of Jesus' human experience on earth. This is the time to reflect on all Christ gave for us, all His suffering for us, for all our sins. What a selfless act, what a gift from our divine Father to send His only son for our sake, to take away all our sins so we may live in love with the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in peace.
Wishing you a reflective Good Friday, and a glorious, joyful, blessed Easter!
